As the city
enters a three-day quiet period before voters return to the polls for the
gubernatorial runoff, officials are telling campaigns to take down their
banners and posters.
Jakarta Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) chairman Ramdansyah told reporters at Jakarta Police headquarters that the campaigns and the Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) would tear down banners and posters on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Ramdansyah said that the banners that could still be observed in the city as of Monday should be tolerated due to the campaigns’ lack of human resources.
“We will make sure the city is clean from campaign banners on election day, with the help of Satpol PP officers,” he said.
Among the banners slated for removal were the “Thank You, Pak Governor” banners currently visible across the capital, Ramdansyah said.
“It would be unfair if the banners are still up as Governor Fauzi Bowo is currently running in the runoff election,” Ramdansyah said.
The banners, depicting Fauzi and listing his accomplishments, have been up for about a week. They were allegedly erected by some Fauzi supporters acting independently of his campaign team.
However, Ramdansyah urged Fauzi’s campaign to take the banners down to avoid allegations of campaign fraud.
The second round of the gubernatorial election has seen several negative campaigns conducted by the campaigns and by candidates’ ostensibly independent supporters.
In one such campaign, the Association of Indonesian Traditional Market Traders (APPSI) allegedly arranged for the broadcast of commercials backing Joko “Jokowi” Widobo in the runoff.
APPSI is led by Lt. Gen. (ret.) Prabowo Subianto, who is also chief patron of the Great Indonesia Movement Party, which has backed Jokowi, along with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
According to Ramdansyah, the APPSI violated electoral rules by paying TV stations to run commercials backing Joko outside the campaign period for the gubernatorial runoff poll.
Ramdansyah said that the offense carried a maximum sentence of three months’ detention or payment of a Rp 1 million fine.
The police said that they would investigate the case and would summon Prabowo, who has repeatedly failed to fulfill summonses for questioning by the committee.
Amid the negative campaigns, several well-known artists are calling for free and fair elections in the capital.
The artists, grouped under the moniker of Revolusi Cerdas DKI (Jakarta Smart Revolution), include musician Katon Bagaskara, actor Deddy Mizwar, singers Indra Bekti, Glenn Fredly and Andre Hehanusa and television presenter Charles Bonar Sirait.
The artists plan to inform use social media to inform voters about the election, such as the actual date of the runoff, and offer tips on how to avoid invalidating their votes, according to Katon, the founder of Revolusi Cerdas DKI.
“Voters have to be active in monitoring the execution of the election to make sure that their votes do count,” he said.
He said that if voters saw any indication of wrongdoing, then they could take a photo as evidence and upload it to the Face-book page of Revolusi Cerdas DKI. (aml/han)

Kandidat menyuruh untuk menurunkan spanduk
Selama kota memasuki masa 3 hari tenang sebelum pemberian suara kembali untuk
memberikan suara pada pemilihan gubernur, pegawai negeri memerintahkan para
kampanye untuk menurunkan spanduk dan poster mereka.
Panitia Pengawas Pemilu Jakarta (Panwaslu) ketua
dia mengatakan.
Diantara spanduk-spanduk tersebut ada yang
bertuliskan “Terimakasih Pak Gubernur” secara bersamaan terlihat sepanjang jalan
ibu kota, Ramdansyah menambahkan.
ketidak-sah-an suara mereka, sesuai dengan Katon, Founder Revolusi Cerdas DKI.
facebook Revolusi Cerdas DKI.
